Pavliani Country House
Projects
It has 2 floors and 2 master bedrooms for 2 couples (parents and children) and a guest house. The 2 master bedrooms are located at the second floor and have individual staircase access. All spaces are arranged around a central double height interior atrium that gives climatic balance to the house: allowing air movement with east-west cross ventilation and buoyancy to air extraction at the top windows, and central heating the space with fireplace during the winter.
The building consists of mixed high thermal mass materials mainly: reinforced concrete for the structural elements, double masonry bricks with internal insulation and external local limestone cladding or raw concrete at cases, aluminium windows and galvanized external door. The roof consists of ceramic tiles enclosed by concrete sloping slab and elements.
This is a collaboration work with Attelier A66, 2003.
Greek mountain weather:
It can be cold and snowy during winter and during summer it can be hot during daytime but always cool during nights. In this case the big diurnal temperature difference would be favored by big thermal mass that would absorb the excess heat during the day and release it during the night and then cool down until morning time again.
Mixed Construction
- reinforced concrete for the structural elements,
- double masonry bricks with internal insulation
- external local limestone cladding
- external raw concrete at cases,
- aluminium windows and galvanized external door
Interior Atrium
All spaces are arranged around a central double height interior atrium that gives climatic balance to the house: allowing air movement with east-west cross ventilation and buoyancy whilst accommodating the fireplace as central winter heating.
